Should I climb into the attic to check whether the AC drain is leaking?
Do not enter an unsafe or unfamiliar equipment space to trace a leak. Stop cooling at a thermostat you can reach safely and report the stain or drip from below. The source still needs to be confirmed. Nearby AC equipment is not proof.
Keep clear of the damaged area
Stay away from a ceiling that sags or from water near lights, outlets or wiring. Do not touch a wet switch or attempt to catch water while standing under an unstable surface. If the space presents immediate danger, leave it and seek urgent assistance.
Do not restart cooling to test the stain. An active condensate leak or melting ice can add water even before the exact drainage fault is known.
Describe what is visible from below
Record the room, the stain’s position and whether it is new or spreading. If safe, photograph the area from floor level. Note when cooling last ran and whether weak airflow or ice had been reported earlier.
A ceiling mark could involve an AC pan or drain. But a roof or plumbing leak can also be nearby. Rainfall and plumbing-use timing are helpful context. They do not show the source without inspection.
Describe access before a visit is accepted
Collier County’s plan separates Urban and Rural Golden Gate Estates. Give the complete property address, then describe the access opening and equipment location only as far as you know them. Do not promise a safe walkway you have not verified.
Mention a ceiling hatch, pull-down stair, locked room or separate building if present. The technician should decide whether the access and work are within the accepted scope. The owner need not improvise a route.
Separate finding the source from opening finishes
Ask whether the initial check can locate the fault without cutting finishes, and who must authorize any extra access. A drain repair and removal of wet ceiling material are different tasks.
If the AC caused the water, request the identified failed path or part and the operating check after correction. Drying, insulation replacement, roof work and mold assessment remain separate from this AC repair inquiry.
Questions about this repair
Can I puncture a swollen ceiling to drain it?
Do not work beneath or alter a damaged ceiling. Keep clear and get help for the building and electrical hazards.
Does shutting cooling off stop all water immediately?
Not necessarily. Water already collected or ice thawing may continue to move. Report continued dripping while remaining clear of the affected area.
